What is it?
Irish Moss (Carrageen or Rock Moss as it's known in Ireland) belongs to the Red Algae family. It's commercial importance is due to its use as a natural thickening agent & emulsifier in food & personal care products. Irish Moss grows submerged in & around the rocks in the unpolluted coastal waters of Ireland & the shores of the North Atlantic. Irish moss also varies in colour from reddish-brown to purplish-green.

What's in it for you?
Irish Moss is a naturally hydrating topical skin & hair food composed of a variety of nutrients like:
Chlorophyll - a brilliant source of Vitamin K used in cosmetics to fade uneven, blotchy skin tones & discoloration.

Carotene - which converts into vitamin A, traps active oxygen molecules and prevents free radical damage.

Potassium - adds moisture and prevents dry skin

Sodium - nutrient rich skin & scalp tonic, exfoliator and detoxifier.

Calcium - controls the thickness of the epidermis and regulates tissue cell division.

Manganese - without manganese you would have skin problems, premature greying and stunted nail and hair growth.

Sulphur - a natural component of various foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, dried beans, milk, eggs, tea, coffee, garlic, dried horsetail herb, chocolate, seafood, meat (approximately 2% sulphur), amino acids (L-methionine, L-cysteine, L-cystine & taurine), wheat germ & whole grains. Purported to promote hair growth & cell tissue regeneration. Necessary for the production of collagen and keratin - required protein for the health and maintenance of skin, nails and hair.

As well as iron, iodine, copper, vitamins and protein.
Irish Moss does not have roots therefore water and nutrients are transported directly through the cell walls.

Healthy, Wealthy and Wise:
Medicinally, Irish Moss is said to reduce:
a) Peptic and duodenal ulcers
b) Gastric (acid) secretions
Irish Moss can be taken internally as a laxative, cough suppressant, expectorant and to relieve sore throats. Rich in iodine & sulphur, Irish moss is one of many herbs used to balance and/or provide nourishment to thyroid(s)

A word to the WISE!
Always seek medical advice when using this herb to treat any and all medical conditions.
Irish Moss contains blood thinning properties and as such it *should not* be taken at the same time with aspirin or Ibuprofen. Also because of it's ability to absorb minerals it may induce gastro-intestinal discomfort when taken internally.

Precautions:
Do not use Irish Moss if you are currently taking blood thinners (anti-coagulants).
Do not over use Irish Moss as it is rich in iodine and may cause thyroid imbalance.
DO NOT USE IF PREGNANT OR LACTATING.
